Retired Prison Farm Overseer Dies At Home

WALDOBORO – Wilmot E. Dow, 76, of Waldoboro, died Wednesday at the home of his son, Wilmot S. Dow here. Mr. Dow was a retired superintendent of the Maine State Prison Farm.
He was born at the Theodore Roosevelt Ranch in North Dakota, Aug. 12, 1886, the son of Wilmot S. and Elizabeth Edwards Dow. He had made his home in Waldoboro for the past 20 years.
Mr. Dow was a graduate of the College of Pharmacy of Columbia University in New York City and operated his own drug store for several years in Presque Isle. He was forced to give this up due to his health and for several years was employed by the Western Electric Company in Presque Isle. Later he was superintendent of the Maine State Prison Farm for eight years and resided in Thomaston.
He was a member of Trinity Lodge of Masons, Presque Isle, a member of Meenagha Grange, Waldoboro, a member of the Waldoboro Lions Club, and previously had belonged to the Houlton Elks Club.
Surviving are: his widow, Mrs. Katherine S. Dow of Waldoboro; two sons, Wilmot S. Dow of Waldoboro and John A. Dow of Presque Isle; a daughter, Mrs. Margaret Melgard of Thomaston; one brother, George F. Dow of Island Falls; two sisters, Mrs. Raymond Emerson and Mrs. Lona Tower, both of Warren; nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Flanders Funeral Home, Waldoboro, with Rev. Royal Brown officiating. Interment with committal services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Fairmount Cemetery, Presque Isle.6

Edwards and Lizzie Fields, on 13 July 1885 in Dyer Brook, Maine, the marriage was performed by The Rev. G.W. Stearns of Patten, Maine.5 Wilmot Sewall Dow died on 22 May 1891 at the age of 361 and is buried in the Island Falls Cemetery, Island Falls, Aroostook County, Maine.6
