Virginia Sims Evans was born on 7 August 1879 in New London, Connecticut.2 She was the daughter of Rear-Admiral Robley Dunglison Evans and Charlotte Taylor. Virginia Sims Evans married Harold Ingalls Sewall, son of William Bull Sewall and Lena French Ingalls, on 29 April 1903 in Trinity Cathedral, Tsukiji, Tokyo, they were married by Bishop McKim. The reception was held at the British Legation.1,3 Virginia Sims Evans and Harold Ingalls Sewall were divorced on 15 October 1913 at Ellsworth, Maine; Mrs. Sewall sustained charges of cruel and abusive treatment.1 In 1925 Mrs Evans-Sewall was living at 44 Lower Sloane Street, London, at the time of the announcement of her daughter's engagement.4 Virginia Sims Evans died on 2 August 1958 in Villa Chiara, Rapallo, Italy, at the age of 78.5

Clara Ewan married James Bell, son of William Bell and Markie Minto, on 4 June 1816 in the Cathedral, Calcutta, There is an entry in the Asiatic Journal and Monthly Miscellany, 1817, which records this marriage and notes that the groom was an indigo planter. Whether or not this is the same James Bell is a matter for speculation.1

Elizabeth Fairbairn was born on 13 May 1817 in Scotland.1 She was the daughter of Robert Fairbairn.2 Elizabeth Fairbairn married William Bell Grieve, son of George Grieve and Minto Bell, on 1 July 1842 in Canada.3 Elizabeth Fairbairn and William Bell Grieve appear on the census of 1851 at Richmond, Lennox County, Canada West [Ontario], The family are farmers and are Presbyterians. Living with them are Robert Fairburn, 65, Robert Fairburn, 22 and Esther Fairbur, 22, all born in Scotland; Robert Fairburn, aged 11, born in the United States and Archibald Fairburn, aged 9, born in Ontario.4 Elizabeth Fairbairn died circa 1878 in Grieves Corner, Lennox, Ontario, Canada.3
