"The marriage took place yesterday at Christ Church, Lancaster Gate, of Major Claude Gordon Beatson (private secretary to the Chief of the Air Staff) to Miss Lilias Mary Ellis, daughter of the late Mr. Clement Campbell Ellis and Mrs Ellis, of Kniveden Hall, Leek, Staffordshire. The bride, who was given away by her mother, wore a simple dress of soft white silk, embroidered around the neck and sleeves with white silk, and a silver cord girdle. She wore a veil of old Brussels lace, fastened with a wreath of orange buds, and she carried a bouquet of white carnations and orange blossom so. The bridesmaids, Miss Dorothy Ellis and Miss Moyra Beatson (cousin of the bridegroom) wore dresses of pale primrose crepe de Chine and lace and net caps, with wreaths of sweet peas. They wore gold and pearl brooches, the gift of the bridegroom, and carried bouquets of blue iris. Mr Barfoot-Saunt was best man. Bishop Ridgeway officiated, assisted by the Rev A.W.E. McComb. Among those present was Air-Marshall Sir Hugh Trenchard. A reception was held at the Lancaster Gate Hotel."1
Lilias Mary Ellis and Major Claude Gordon Beatson R.A.F. were divorced in 1948.4 Lilias Mary Ellis died on 7 August 1985 at the age of 86 the funeral took place at Mortlake Crematorium 14th August.5
