Brother of William May. Fell a victim to a dreadful plague, which raged in Cumberland, in 1597. Dr. John Meye, Bishop of Carlisle was born circa 1526 in Suffolk.2 He married Amy Vowell, daughter of William Vowell of Creake Abbey, Norfolk and Margaret Hymerford. Dr. John Meye, Bishop of Carlisle was translated in 1577 Bishop of Carlisle. He died on 15 February 1597/98 in Rose Castle, Carlisle, probably of the plague3 and is buried on 15 February 1597/98 in Carlisle.3
