     William Pynchon. A Salem attorney. He was born on 11 December 1723 in Springfield.2 He was the son of Colonel William Pynchon and Catharine Brewer. William Pynchon graduated in 1743 from Harvard ranked fourth in a class of thirty-nine.3 Studied law with Mitchel Sewall, Clerk of Courts for Essex County. Admitted an attorney at Superior Court (1757) and a barrister (1762). Practiced in Salem and became head of the Essex Bar. Justice of the Peace (1761). Signed address to Hutchinson (1774), but recanted. Addressed Gage (1775). Watched Revolution. Law partnership with William Wetmore. He married Catherine Sewall, daughter of Mitchell Sewall and Mary Cabot, on 30 June 1751 in Salem, Massachusetts.4 William Pynchon died on 14 March 1789 in Salem, Massachusetts, at the age of 65.5,2
