     Judge Nathaniel Ropes was born on 20 May 1726.2 He graduated in 1745 from Harvard.3 He married Priscilla Sparhawk, daughter of Rev. John Sparhawk and Jane Porter, on 2 September 1755.1 Judge Nathaniel Ropes died on 18 March 1774 at the age of 47 of smallpox "in the prime of life."4 He was representative to the General Court; a member of the Council; Chief Justice of the Common Pleas, and Judge of Probate for the county of Essex; and a Judge of Superior Court of Massachusetts. He was a firm Loyalist. The night before his death, his house was attacked by the multitude, and the windows and furniture were demolished.3
