MEMORIAL SERVICE PHIPPSBURG - Camilla Ashe Sewall, 80, of Bath, Maine, died on 19 December 2016.
Born in Manhattan to Loyall Farragut and Jane Smith Sewall, Camilla was the great-grandchild of shipbuilder, railroad industrialist and Democratic vice-presidential candidate Arthur Sewall, and the grandchild of Harold Marsh Sewall, the last United States Minister to Hawaii whose efforts led to the territory's annexation.
Camilla and her brother Loyall grew up on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, but spent formative years at the family home in Bath, Maine during World War II. She graduated from Wellesley College and Columbia University, and worked as a social worker in the US, France and the UK. She met her husband, William Michael Wood, while working at the Centre for Students and Artists in Paris, and later moved with her family to London. Following their divorce, she travelled widely and spent extended sojourns in Europe as well as Cambodia, Haiti, Mexico, and Vietnam. She was famous for her diverse friends and fabulous parties. She is survived by her children Philip (Pip), Camilla (Mia) and Katharine (Jenty), and her grandchildren Elizabeth, Camilla Oceana, Samuel, Jakob, Sabine and Delphine.
A memorial service will be held at the Phippsburg Congregational Church on Saturday, 22 July 2017 at 2.30 pm.

     Camilla Loyall Ashe Sewall was born on 6 October 1901 at 67 West 48th street, Manhattan, New York, New York.2 She was the daughter of Harold Marsh Sewall and Camilla Loyall Ashe.3 Camilla Loyall Ashe Sewall married Governor Walter Evans Edge on 9 December 1922 in Bath, Maine.4 Camilla Loyall Ashe Sewall died on 8 October 1972 in 2 Elm Road, Princetown, New Jersey, at the age of 715 and is buried in Northwood Cemetery, Downingtown, Pennsylvania.6

Mrs. Camilla L. A. Sewall Edge, widow of the late Gov. Walter E. Edge, died Sunday at her home at 2 Elm Road, one day after her 71st birthday.
Mrs. Edge had been suffering from a pulmonary ailment for about a year.
She was well known as a hostess in Trenton, Princeton, Washington, D.C., and Paris, when her husband was a U.S. Senator and U.S. Ambassador to France, and during his second gubernatorial term.
Gov. Edge, a Republican, died in 1956 at the age of 82. The former Miss Sewall was the governor's second wife, having married him in 1922 while he was a U.S. Senator. The first Mrs. Edge, the former Lady Lee Philips, died in 1915.
Mr. Edge, whose political career spanned more than 50 years, served as governor from 1917-1919; and 1944-1947, as U.S. Senator from 1919-1929 and as Ambassador to France from 1959-32.
Mrs. Edge was born in Bath, Maine, daughter of Harold and Camilla Sewall. A lover of things historical, Mrs. Edge founded the Bath Marine Museum in her native community, was a member of the New Jersey Historical Society, and operated the Prince of Orange Antique Shope in Hopewell with Mrs. George Gallup of Princeton.
She and Gov. Edge moved to their 2 Elm Road home in 1953 after donating Morven, now the governor's mansion, to the state.
Mrs. Gallup, her friend for many years, recalled that Mrs. Edge was "extremely well informed, extremely witty and very young in her approach to life.
Mrs. Helen Meyner, Democratic candidate for congress in the 13th Congressional District, was another close friend of Mrs. Edge. She described her as a "wonderful, courageous and witty person." and added "she will be missed enormously."
Mrs. Edge is survived by two daughters, Mrs. E. Brooke Lee of Washington, DC. , and Mrs. John MacFadyen of Millbrook, N.Y; a son, Loyall Howard Edge of Tallahassee. Fla; a stepson, Walter Jr. of Miccossoukee, Fla., 13 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Trinity Episcopal Church, Princeton. Private interment services will be in Downingtown. Pa.7

Berry.2 Carol Sewall died on 5 August 2021 at Rhode Island Hospital, Providence, Providence County, Rhode Island, at the age of 82.1

Carol (Sewall) Berry of Plymouth, passed away at Rhode Island Hospital on August 5, 2021 at the age of eighty-two. She was the beloved mother of Michael Berry and his fiancé Judy Owen of Gardner. She was the sister of Patricia Sewall of Weymouth. She also leaves many good friends.

Carol was born on June 20 ,1939 in Weymouth to Warren and Elizabeth (Guertin) Sewall. She was a devoted and active parishioner of the Second Church of Plymouth in Manomet, where she was the Sexton and life member of Sanctuary Support. She enjoyed knitting, especially scarves for the children in the hospital. She was a Star Trek fan, loved her flowers and spending time sitting on the patio. She enjoyed watching her two birds dance when she played music. Carol was a beautiful and loving person who touched so many lives and will be dearly missed by her family, friends and church family.3

     Caroline J. Sewall was born in 1924 in Long Island, New York.1 She was the daughter of Samuel Donnell Sewall and Gladys Edith A. Labdon.1 Caroline J. Sewall married Howard Hanks Jr., son of Howard Hanks and Cecelia Josephine Leitner, on 22 November 1945

     Miss Caroline Sewall, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel D. Sewall of Islip, N. Y., became the bride of Lt. (jg) Howard Hanks, Jr., USN, son of Mr. and Mrs. Howard Hanks of Easton, Pa., Nov. 22 at Sacred Heart church, Punahou, with the Rev. Father Edward Leo Condon performing the afternoon ceremony.
     Dr. Deal Crooker gave the bride in marriage. Miss Alma Mathewson was maid of honor and Mr. La Verne Pyles, Jr., was best man. Ushers were Lt. (jg) Robert Winter. Lt. (jg) James Turner, Lt. (jg) David S. Wells, and Lt. George A. Slifer, Jr., who formed the traditional arch of steel with their crossed swords.
     A wedding dinner was held at the Niumalu hotel for members of the bridal party after the ceremony. The bride attended Sargent college, Cambridge, Mass. Lt. Hanks attended Notre Dame and is stationed at Pearl Harbor.
     The couple are making their home at 4199 Seaside ave. after spending their honeymoon at Kailua.2

Caroline J. Sewall died on 19 October 2014 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin,3 and is buried in Prospect Harbor Cemetery, Prospect Harbor, Hancock County, Maine.4

Caroline Sewall Hanks passed away on Sunday, October 19, 2014 at the age of 90.
     She was a member of St. Monica's Episcopal Church in Naples and lived at Waterside Place in North Naples since 1996. She died while staying with her son Christopher and daughter-in law Suzanne at their home in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Mrs. Hanks' husband, Howard Hanks, Jr. , died in September, 1987.
     Mrs. Hanks is survived by her sister, Islay Hedger of Santa Rosa, CA (previously of Naples). She also leaves five children, Christopher, Stephen (Silver Spring, MD), Nancy Kudwa (York, SC), David (Walnut Creek, CA), and Paul (Naples, FL). Mrs. Hanks was the devoted and proud grandmother of eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, all of whom she happily saw during her final year.
     Wherever the family was living - her husband's career in the portland cement industry took the family to many different states over time - Mrs. Hanks was always actively involved in her local community, including serving as a PTA leader and on school boards in New Orleans LA, Newark DE, Wheeling IL, and Woodstock NY. As an indication of her homemaking skills, Mrs. Hanks competed in and won the title of Mrs. Delaware in 1958 in the national Mrs. America contest.
     In the 1970s, while living in Walnut Creek CA, she earned a Masters Degree in counseling at California State-Hayward, which led to full-time work as a human-resources manager in the Bay area in the 1980s. After her husband's death, Mrs. Hanks moved to Lake Forest, IL to be near her daughter and, as a volunteer, became the driving force in the establishment of the non-profit, volunteer-based Career Resource Center there, which helps the unemployed find jobs. In her 80's she served multiple years as President of the Waterside Place Homeowners Association and, in her spare time, worked as a seamstress in the costume department at the Naples Players. And finally, despite having a stroke in 2010 in Naples, she finished Caroline, An American Woman's Experience, a book-length memoir of her life that will soon be available in print and online. Rev. Carolyn Titcomb Sewall1

     Rev. Carolyn Titcomb Sewall was born on 20 April 1889 in Plymouth, Massachusetts.1 She was the daughter of Rev. John Ladd Sewall and Catherine Mussey Hartwell. Rev. Carolyn Titcomb Sewall graduated from Mount Holyoke college. Between 1913 and 1941 she was a missionary and minister in China. In 1931 she was known as the "Children's Missionary", and was supervisor of mission outstations in Tientsin where she was reported to be in danger from the violence which was spreading in China from the war in Manchuria. In 1941 she was in Santa Monica, probably convalescing.2 She died probably on 7 October 1946 in Northampton, Massachusetts, at the age of 57 and is buried at Hillside Cemetery, Norwich, Vermont.3,4

     Carrie Gertrude Sewall was born on 23 November 1851 in Chesterville, Franklin County, Maine.1,2 She was the daughter of Deacon Calvin Davenport Sewall and Eliza Mayhew.1 Carrie Gertrude Sewall married Charles P. Robbins on 19 September 1872 in Farmington, Maine, the service was conducted by the Rev. George N. Marden.3 Carrie Gertrude Sewall died on 17 April 1886 in Calais, Maine, at the age of 34.4

Catharine Eugenie Sewall died on 11 April 1997 at the age of 892 and is buried in Lakeside Cemetery, Canon City, Fremont County, Colorado.4
