WISCASSET - Town Clerk Charles S. Sewall, 82, died in his sleep at his home here last night. He was a former principal of Wiscasset Academy and a former selectman.
Mr. Sewall was graduated from Bowdoin College in 1897, and the next year was elected to the first of three terms on the Wiscasset Board of Selectmen, the beginning of many years of public service to the town. He was named principal of Wiscasset Academy in 1910 and served for many years. He had been elected town clerk annually since 1951.
Mr. Sewall was a botanist, and made two expeditions with Cmdr. Donald B. MacMillan to the Arctic, a subject on which he used to lecture. He was a Mason, and a charter member of Garrison Hill Chapter, OES. He had been an active member of the vestry of St. Philip's Episcopal Church more than 50 years.⁵

Services for Allen Devereaux Sewall, veteran film and stage actor, will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. in Utter-McKinley’s Strother Hollywood Chapel, 6240 Hollywood Blvd. Interment will follow in Valhalla Cemetery.
Mr. Sewall, who died yesterday at Citizens Emergency Hospital after a heart attack, had played motion picture character roles for more than 34 years. Born in Cambridge. Mass., he first turned to the theater when he was starred with Richard Mansfield and others, and sang with the Boston Opera Co.
Active in Boy Scout work, he served as Scoutmaster of Hollywood Troop 120 for more than 10 years.
He leaves his widow, Lucile, of 7930 W. Norton Ave.: a son, Joseph Melvin Sewall of San Diego: a sister, Mrs. Nellie Bennett of Burlington. Mass.: and a brother, John, of Washington, D.C.⁷
